Wheel hub separated from bevel gear during operation while pushing a large round bale. User suspects snap ring failure as the cause. Wheels became immobile during bale flipping operation.

Whats the likely failure here? On a Kioti CK20s HST. Tractor was pushing a large round bail. While flipping the bale, noticed the wheels wouldn't turn and looked down to find the wheel hub separated from the 'bevel gear?' Did a snap ring likely fail? The chain is where it is because I had a neighbor drag the tractor out, while I lifted the front end with the bucket all the way down. Chain is there to hopefully prevent a catastrophic mistake.
